I Want to See Inside Your Fridge

I recently participated in a contest in which one of the requirements was to take a picture of the inside of your refrigerator, as is, no pre-picture cleaning allowed. It was fun to get a little glimpse into other people’s lives, but what I found even more interesting were the comments that accompanied the pictures.

There were more than a few “I can’t believe I’m doing this” exclamations, with a fair share of what I’ll call ‘Don’t judge me!” statements sprinkled in. You know what I’m talking about: The “I know that pasta/take-out/a half eaten tube of cookie dough/an entire fridge full of beer isn’t healthy, BUT I have picky eaters/have no time to cook/am in the middle of a stressful week/am not an alcoholic, I promise!” statements.

The thing that struck me as I looked at the pictures though, was how similar they all were. Sure, some refrigerators were full to overflowing and some were practically empty, but none of them were perfectly organized or sterilized and, conversely, none of them made you feel sick to your stomach just to look at them. They were all the products of people with families, busy lives, and better things to do than make sure that last week’s leftovers got thrown away immediately after their expiration date.

So I got thinking about this blog and the fact that it’s about sharing our real lives with each other (or at least me sharing my real life with you!), and I decided to steal and expand on the fridge idea. I’m going to share the picture I took of my refrigerator, but I’m not going to stop there. I’m also going to share photos of our bedroom closets. As is. No prior cleaning.

I need you to join in too! It’s much more fun that way. So as soon as you’re done reading this I want you to grab your camera (or phone) and go snap some pictures. You can do your fridge and your closets, or you can pick and chose, but you CAN’T tidy them up first! Once you’ve taken your pictures, post them to my Facebook wall. And then have fun browsing through the pictures of everyone else’s ‘behind closed doors’ spaces. And breathe a sigh of relief knowing that you are not the only one who could use the help of a professional organizer.

(Side note: If you happen to be a professional organizer and want to lend your services to me, I won’t say no!)

Without further ado, here are my pictures:

The Refrigerator (I’ll admit that in a stroke of good luck, I had emptied out the contents just hours before learning of the contest requirements. Otherwise you would have seen many, many plastic containers full of wasted food.)

The Master Bedroom Closet  (Remember all the stuff from my Bonus Room? It changed locations.)

The Boys’ Closet

Annelise’s Closet (Oh man, I just noticed the face sticking up from the blankets on the floor. We’re not hicks, I swear! I won’t let my hubby hang it in the living room, so it’s residing in here until he has a dedicated man cave.)

Alright, now it’s your turn! Do it now before you forget… or think better of it!

Please Note: Your pictures don’t show up unless you change the privacy setting to ‘public’ before you post them.
